The Mayflower Foundation's
Chicago Spring Benefit

To Benefit: HFS Chicago Scholars

It is no secret that today's youth are at risk; especially in Chicago's inner-city neighborhoods where children are often left behind due to economic constraints, broken homes, lack of proper education and little guidance and support. Chicago teen dropout rates are among the worst in the United States, as are rates for teen birth, single parents, and children living in poverty and distressed neighborhoods. In many of these neighborhoods, as many as 70% of those entering eighth grade don't graduate from high school.

Founded in 1993, HFS Chicago Scholars assists economically disadvantaged, inner-city high school students in Chicago who show academic and leadership promise to achieve their educational goals.  HFS Chicago Scholars provides students with financial assistance to attend top Chicago private high schools, award-winning academic directors and one-on-one mentors, as well as college selection and admissions support.

The event in May will, with a little luck, support one scholar through a full four years of high school.  The organization's historical 97% donation to program ratio shows that a contribution to Dreams for Kids will benefit the kids and not be lost in administrative expenses.
